Bugs and Features
Olbrich Botanical Gardens
We filmed our 6th Episode last month! The Bolz Conservatory was lush, the music was entrancing, and the place was absolutely packed.
From The Front Row descended upon Olbrich Botanical Gardens at noon the day of the show with a storm of crates, boxes, and metal poles, setting up a command center on both sides of the staff entrance to the gardens.
We've got a new term in our lexicon now - The "Moth" Check will forever be a line item in future walkthroughs to check for possible environment changes. During our pre-show walkthrough a couple weeks earlier, we had found the perfect place for our jib up on the balcony above the band. Cut to the day of the shoot, we walk into the gardens... and there is a giant moth floating overhead completely obscuring the path of the jib!
Make it stand out
Moving a giant art installation with no notice wasn't an available option, but luckily our team was up to the task! Our lighting designer Paul gave it a dramatic spotlight, and jib operator Noah was tasked with flying the jib around the moth with about 2 foot clearance on either side. Its possible he missed his calling in life as a surgeon.
New Segment - Historical Features
We've gotten some feedback that you all want to hear more about the history of the venues that we are focusing on! One of the things that makes From The Front Row unique is our focus on travelling to where the music is going down, and capturing the sound of an artist in a space. All of the venues that we've travelled to this season have rich stories, and we're going to start sharing them with you.
Stay tuned for next month to get a sneak peak of our new guest lecturer!
Down The Road to Distribution
We're focusing on packaging our first season for broadcast on the public television network! Our goal is to submit in July, and we've got a lot of ground to cover in the editing booth until then. So I'll get back to it - talk to you next month!
